When you train, you not only improve respiration & circulation, but also benefit muscles in very important ways. Muscle cells include mitochondria, which are cellular powerhouses. Mitochondria are the site of a chemical process in which oxygen is used to make energy from fat and carbohydrates. When you train, you increase the volume of your muscle mitochondria, that means your muscles can burn more carbs and fat. Training also doubles your muscles ability to use oxygen, so endurance trained muscles are better able to use fat as their energy source.
Take away>> Aerobic fitness improves your muscles ability to use fat, and this contributes to weight loss as well as improves your health and performance.
Tips:
* Use large muscle groups when doing aerobic activities (walking, running, swimming etc)
* Aerobic training improves heart and lung function, burns fat, and improves delivery of oxygen to your muscles.
* Aim for a minimum of 20 minutes, better yet, 30 minutes 4-5 days a week
